Cliffe House Takes Part In World Maths Day

On Wednesday 14th it is World Maths Day and all our settings at  Cliffe House are taking part

Educational games can add up to a lot of fun, as World Maths Day goes to show. The annual event encourages thousands of students from around the world to take a break from standard maths lessons. Instead, they take part in competitive maths-themed games, with the chance to win certificates and prizes. The aim is to help raise standards of numeracy.

Since it was founded in 2007 by the organisation 3P Learning, World Maths Day has seen its popularity multiply fast. It’s now part of the World Education Games, linking schools from many parts of the globe, and in 2010 the event established a world record for the largest-ever online maths contest. Children as young as five can get involved, competing against others from abroad in real time. It is also possible to play via mobile phones so that even more youngsters can discover the number-themed activities.

Although Cliffe House children are not old enough to be involved in some of the activities we have organised some of our own fantastic games and activities above and beyond the normal learning maths through play we do everyday

News Update From Our Trinity Setting

We have had one busy, fun packed Summer at our Trinity setting!
As we fondly wave off a huge group of our Pre-School children as they embark on their new adventures at ‘big School’, we are excited to kick off the new term with a bang….
We welcome Hazel as our new Head of Pre-School, look forward to supporting Natalie as she begins her studies in Early Childhood Education at Trinity University and officially welcome Mandeep as she joins our Baby Room full time.
In addition, we will be welcoming back all of our term time staff from their Summer break…we’ve missed them!
We also have lots of new children joining our setting this term and look forward to getting to know them and their families as we support them throughout the transition into Nursery life. We will start with an exciting ‘All About Me’ topic in each group with activities including paper plate faces, an ‘all about me’ tree where parents will be encouraged to participate as well as lots of show and tell circle time activities in Pre-School. Please feel free to share your thought, suggestions and ideas with your child’s Head of Room.
We will sadly say an emotional goodbye to Carole Braddock as she leaves for early retirement. Carole has been part of the Cliffe House family for nearly 13 years and will be hugely missed. We want to thank her for all her hard work and commitment over the years and demand that she stays in touch!!

Its all change at Burley

Hazel will be leaving us to take over as Pre-school leader at our setting at Trinity, Horsforth. Jade  is transferring to Featherbank, Horsforth and will be joining the Blue Room children as a ‘second’.  James will be transferring to our nursery in Baildon, also joining the Pre-school team. We would like to take this opportunity to thank them for all their hard work  at Burley and we wish them every success in their new role.

It is lovely to have Emma West back from maternity leave with Oscar, her beautiful son.  Emma will take over as our Head of Green Room. Lisa Clark will be joining her from the Blue Room, helping with the transition of children from Blue to Green over the coming months. Lisa has a BA in Children’s Learning and Development. Karen and Bronwyn will continue to work in the Green Room and will be there to support these changes.

And in between all this we are having a small refurb/ make over so please bare with us !

Pop into the office if you have any questions or alternativley drop us a line at

Congratulations on 10 Years service

Debby Thackray who is the Cliffe House  Area Manager is celebrating this year, as she has been with the Cliffe House family for 10 years

Debby is a much valued member of our team and apart from all her 25 years experience in childcare , she also provides a kind and caring attitude to all the children as well as towards  members of staff. Training , personnel development and implementing new ideas are also Debbys  forte and things that she feels very strongly about.

Debby first met Della and Adrian 10 years ago and says she immediately knew that they shared the same passion for excellent nursery care. Since then together their goal has been to provide children with the best possible start in a safe environment where they can grow and thrive and be happy.

“Each day is different , bringing new challenges often requiring quick decisions  , it has been a privilege to work for Cliffe House and be part of its journey and I am even more excited about its future”

Here’s to the next 10 years Debby !!
